Speak volumes when you communicate
that which you feel in your heart.
Say what it is that you feel you need to say.
Say it definitively and as if all depends on your statement.
Say it with passion, with fervor, say it with meaning,
Speak eloquently when these chosen words
enter the world so that you might be proud of your expressions.
Speak so when the words hit the ears of your loved ones
they smile and can be proud of what you have to say,
Speak like the beat likes your spoken art, street poetry,
Speak like King, like Selassie I, speak like a king,
Speak the words you find this night,
Those that move you to put your mind on paper,
Speak carefully, speak cleanly, speak without judgment,
Speak about how you will better yourself,
Keep from speaking on the ones that drive you
to speak about the negativity and the corruption at hand,
Speak about the positive changes you can make and
Speak about how you will make them grow,
Speak about the kind of growth that will
inspire someone to speak up.
Speak up,
Speak about those that urged you to utter the unforgettable,
that gave you confidence, that would not allow you to fail,
Speak people; speak in art, in words, in movement, in truth
Speak in rhythm, in thought, in silence,
Speak from the depths of your soul,
Speak from the mountaintop,
Speak for those who cannot speak for themselves,
Speak for me,
Speak about the blessings of life.

Ripened Harvest
145 Root Road JS-3.6.10
vines stream down like locks,
rooted where I rest, pull me towards the Earth
as I gaze upon the open, the vastness, that is just out
of grasp, seized in my imagination,
a contemplation, I taste the hillside
that I have taken in for some time now--
one evening as I bless away the day
like the day and day
before; I will reach over the wire
and stone to feast on
the ripened harvest
vines stream down like locks,
rooted where I rest, pull me towards the Earth
as I gaze upon the open, the vastness, that is just out
of grasp, seized in my imagination,
a contemplation, I taste the hillside
that I have taken in for some time now--
one evening as I bless away the day
like the day and day
before; I will reach over the wire
and stone to feast on

Rastafari is InI
Look into my eyes, to my soul, my dread heart,
Jah Almighty gives Rastafari the head start.
Witness the everlasting, Ites, Gold and Green,
Power of the Trinity, seen and unseen.
Ethiopia, lift up your hands,
Mother Africa, Zion I, the Holy Land.
Jah bring forth InI Holy King,
The King of Kings, The Lord of Lords, Ever Living,
Prophetic words, the blessed Coronation,
One and all bow down, seventy-two nations,
Behold the Lion of the Tribe of Judah
Break the seven seals, Earth’s rightful ruler.
I-man trod this life through the sands of Babylon
And eternally rest upon the rock of Zion.

Emerge
In the country air barren fields and barbwire
I can hear the sound of emergence,
the slow ascent of Spring and childhood.
Through the pine and willow we catch a glimpse of a red-shouldered hawk
And I teach you about it.
View from a distance, watch you learn to balance
above the rock wall and gravel,
silhouetted- sun rays compete to shine on your accomplishment
raise both hands in excitement, triumphant,
aware of the growth in you, blossoming.
Pulled out the ladder and toolbox, you carried yours proudly,
we hung the birdhouse you painted for me on the tree along the corn field.
What joy in your eyes when you handed me your gift.
And in mine when I see you.

Maybe today will be the day...
that my life changes, that i can hold the hand of my little baby girl,
look into my daughter's newborn eyes and smile,
think about how far we have come,
the overwhelming love, and how our family has grown.
"for unto us a child is born..."
